New National Organizing Corps Training Program Off to Hot Start
36 members attend--commit to growing our union and voice
In the wake of historic elections that established a Local constitution and ushered in new leadership, members welcomed 2010 with a renewed dedication to growing and building our union.
36 members attended the National Organizing Corps (NOC) training sessions held on February 20th and 27th, 2010 in Fresno and San Jose to learn how members can continue to make Local 521 a success. The NOC is an exciting program that puts members out in the field to reach out and organize non-union workers. The program asks members to commit 5 hours per month, and participants can choose when to participate.

"I'm excited about this program. It's a great way to get involved, and we can help build our union at the same time. I learned a lot from the training and I'm looking forward to getting out in the field and speaking to new people about joining Local 521," said Jennifer Jenson, Job Specialist, Fresno County.
The comprehensive training session educates members on a number of aspects of organizing campaigns, and what they can expect in the field. Some members were surprised at how much there is to learn about organizing new workers.
Upcoming trainings have been scheduled:
Bakersfield - Advanced Organizing/NOC Coordination (Part II): May 22
Fresno - Basic Organizing (Part I): May 15
Fresno - Parts 1 & 2 - June 5
San Jose - Advanced Organizing/NOC Coordination (Part II): May 15
