SEIU 521 members donate 1.5 tons of food Most people donate food during the holidays. This month, SEIU 521 members launched a localwide food drive when families really need a helping hand -- summer vacation. In just three weeks, members collected more than 1.5 tons of food. Combined with cash donations, it was enough to provide more than 7,300 meals to children, based on Second Harvest Food Bank calculations.

May 26 - Menlo Park city workers mingled with residents at the farmer's market May 20. The city declared the week "Public Workers Week" and said "Public Works personnel are among the first responders during emergencies and disasters" and "the health, safety, and comfort of our community and neighborhoods greatly depend on these Public Works programs."

May 18 - Tuesday was the first day of budget workshops in Santa Clara County and the board chamber overflowed. Workers and residents, calling for protection of public services, lined up to speak out against budget cuts that would devastate the community.
